“That everything great
that has ever happened to humanity since the beginning, has begun with a single
thought in someone's mind and if anyone of us is capable of such a great
thought then all of us has the same capacity, capability, because we are all the
same.” Yanni
The definition of “Advocate” is, according to Webster’s
Dictionary,
1 : one that pleads the cause of
another; specifically : one that pleads the cause of
another before a tribunal or judicial court
2 : one that defends or maintains
a cause or proposal
3 : one that supports or promotes
the interests of another
We are all advocates in our own way.
We care about the welfare of loved ones and try to make a difference in
our communities. Yet there are times
when a problem or issue seems so daunting that we might wonder what one person
can do; might wonder what difference can one person make.
A lot!
Call us if you want to get involved in changing or
developing policies, statues, and legislation that impact the daily lives of
our fellow citizens. We will be glad to
provide you with lawmaker contacts, help you find current or pending legislation,
and refer you to “people in the know” who might be able and willing to add
their voice, their time in pursuit of improving lives for the common good.
United Way is focusing on three areas – education, income
and health (see the Our Work tab). If
you’d like to join our team, just give us a call. There might be a time we need a few phone
calls made or letters written educating policy makers and community decision
makers. You can be a big help to United
Way and UW’s work in St. Johns County.
It only takes one. It
only takes you. Thank you.
