About Us
History
United Way of St. Johns County (Community Chest) held its first Annual Meeting on March 14, 1957 at the Bennett Hotel in St. Augustine, Florida. That first year, the organization raised $48,176.85 for local non-profit organizations – American Red Cross, Boy Scouts, Camp Fire Girls, Mental Health Agency, Salvation Army and Y.M.C.A.
Over the years, member agency names have changed, board members have served their terms and the office has changed location a few times, but the one constant that remains the same today as it was conceptualized for our community in 1957 is this: St. Johns County residents working together to solve community problems in the most effective and efficient manner to “increase the organized capacity of people to care for one another.”
Mission Statement: Engage and inspire communities to create a shared vision for the future and set goals for collective action in the areas of education, income and health.
