Festival of Trees - Renaissance Resort and Conference Center - World Golf Village

Friday, December 2nd, 6:00 PM, grand opening of the Annual Festival of Trees to benefit United Way of St. Johns County and the St. Augustine Record's Empty Stocking Fund. Come for the fun - Santa and Mrs. Clause, cookie decorating, carolling, and beautifully decorated trees donated by over 60 businesses and organizations for silent auction by the general public. IRS increases standard mileage rate, starting July 1
Because of rising fuel costs, the Internal Revenue Service increased the standard mileage rate for business use of an automobile and for medical and moving expenses. The new optional standard mileage rates will apply to expenses incurred on or after July 1, 2011. The business rate will go up to 55.5 cents per mile. JournalofAccountancy.com (6/23)

St. Augustine, Fla., December, 31, 2010 – Northeast Florida Regional Airport will be the site of the St Augustine Air Show, Memorial Day weekend, May 28-29, 2011 The support of two new sponsors, Jack Becker Distributors of Jacksonville and Northrop Grumman of St. Augustine will showcase some of the most spectacular aerobatic performers in the United States. Headline acts will include

Gene Soucy Airshows & Airshow Aces - From the amazing daredevil feats of wing-walker, Teresa Stokes, to the elegant aerobatics of Gene Soucy in the ShowCat bi-plane, the Gene Soucy Airshows act will provide inspired entertainment for the entire family. The audience will be captivated by everything the show has to offer - opening jump, car top landing, solos, comedy, wing walking, team act, dead stick, and a transfer act in addition to the more traditional aerobatic demonstration. This show is an exhilarating throwback to classic airshow troupes of the past!

Team MS760 – Aerobatics, a new two ship aerobatic formation jet air show team, will perform in the 2011 air show. The pilots selected for Team MS760 Aerobatics are Captain Dale “Snort” Snodgrass, United States Navy Retired and Lt. Colonel Jerry “Jive” Kerby, United States Air Force Retired. Snodgrass and Kerby are both military veterans with thousands of hours each in military jet aircraft in addition to being recognized air show performers with experience flying in several different high performance aircraft.
Shockwave Jet Truck – Performance you ask? The Shockwave Jet Truck runs over 300 MPH chasing airplanes at air shows and holds the world record in a quarter mile for trucks at 256 MPH in 6.36 seconds. At 36,000 horsepower, the Shockwave has enough power to accelerate at 3 Gs vertical, which is as much as the Space Shuttle. Stand back…these 3 Pratt and Whitley jet engines create flames and smoke that make for some very special effects!
St. Augustine Air Shows, Inc. is a non-profit, volunteer organization located in St. Augustine Florida. Proceeds will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, Special Operations Warrior Foundation and Naval Special Warfare Foundation (SEALS).and the United Way of St. Johns County.

What if you went to a special party in a special place and got to help many by giving once?

Right away, the United Way of St. Johns County comes to mind helping 34 partner agencies.

On Oct. 2, next Saturday, the United Way and Flagler Health Care Foundation have teamed up to raise needed funds to help these agencies and Flagler Hospital, the community's leader in health care. It is a novel approach to see agencies pairing up to raise funds together, according to Ann Breidenstein, United Way's executive director. But in these tough economic times, she said, a partnership approach is worth a try. We agree.

If you expect to stand around and make party talk, tap your toes to music and enjoy specialty foods, be ready for surprises. This gala promises live action with pirates staking their claim. Pat Croce, owner/operator of the new Pirate Museum opening Nov. 1 next to the Spanish Quarter Museum, is not giving away any hints but we've been told the evening will be memorable. The Company will performing musical selections and the food is coming from St. Augustine's Independent Restaurant Association (SAIRA).

There's an added bonus to this event, its location. Treasures of the Quarter will be held in the Spanish Quarter Museum on St. George Street. This is the debut event for the revitalized museum, the city's premier living history location. It tells the story of life in St. Augustine during the middle 1700s when the city's major industry was defense of the city by the soldiers at the Castillo de San Marcos. Many had families with them so they were a part of the city's lifestyle.

The city is operating the Spanish Quarter in partnership with the University of Florida which recently took over the lease of the state's historic properties from the city. From what we have seen, they are off to a great start. The city has hopes that the Quarter will become a venue for other personal and community special events, too.

They promise that the evening will be more than worth the $75 per person ticket. The event is from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. To join the fun, contact Flagler Hospital Health Care Foundation at 819-4690 or by e-mail: giving@flaglerhospital.org.
